This month’s Sponsor Spotlight is not about a person or business, but about the very concept of sponsorship. Why become a sponsor? Look at it as the difference between attending and belonging… attendee versus owner. When you buy a ticket to a concert, your expectation is that you’ll enjoy the concert. But when you become a sponsor, things change. You become a stakeholder in the success of the series and thus in the well-being of Post 119 itself. Look around at who’s cleaning up after a LATL concert. Almost all are sponsors and volunteers who want to pitch in to help.
Each year our sponsorships cover the artists fee for our concerts. That means that all ticket sales, all food and beverage sales by concert goers flows into the coffers of American Legion Post 119. These monies enable us to serve our veterans and our community. Here are some examples of what we do:
- Mentoring youth. Did you know that there is a Scout hut downstairs where the local Boy Scout Troop holds its meetings?
- Stepping up in time of need. During the recent extended government shutdown, Post 119 provided free meals to furloughed government employees.
- Legal service. The Legion provides free legal advice to veterans and current service members.
- Financial support. We raised over $9K with the raffle of Mark Rashid’s custom-built Post 119 guitar, and donated the majority of that money to three deserving organizations that provide services to community members in need here in Estes Park.
- A place of belonging. Post 119 is a gathering place for veterans. Sometimes, this is what they need most.
- Citizenship. Post 119 hosts the ceremony where status is bestowed upon members of our community who’ve completed the requirements for United States citizenship.
Most American Legions around the USA are not open to the public, and most are struggling to stay open. Conversely, those who open their doors to the public are making it because they attract supporters who believe in making their community a better place.
