The Citizenship Project
On 26 July, American Legion Post 119 hosted their fifth presentation of the 250/150 Anniversary Celebration. Estes Park’s own Citizenship Project led the discussion about “Citizenship; No Trivial Matter”. It engaged, informed, and educated all of us on citizenship eligibility, the process of obtaining citizenship, civics questions that applicants are required to learn, and some other fun facts related to citizenship.

Begun in 2023, the Citizenship Project is a partnership among volunteers and organizations in Estes Park who want to help eligible community members obtain their U.S. citizenship. These partners include American Legion Post 119, The Estes Valley Learning Place, EVICS Family Resource Center, Estes Valley Library, League of Women Voters, and Patriots for Peace of Estes Park. Together, with a pro bono immigration attorney and other volunteers, they work to help reduce or eliminate barriers to obtaining citizenship. Services are free. They include citizenship screening, English language and civics classes, and practice test coaching. They also help with applying for citizenship and provide scholarships to help pay for filing fees..
The Citizenship Project has helped over a dozen Estes Valley residents become U.S. citizens. Their success rate? One-Hundred Percent!
