What’s Happening at the Legion –
It’s summertime and the place is hoppin’! If you didn’t make it last Saturday to the car show and the great band playing on the patio you missed a good one. Music and car lovers had a great time. Not sure which car won the trophy, but there were some cool cars, and cool people there. It was a bit gusty with the wind, but only one table umbrella tried to blow away, and no one was injured! Monday night there was a great 250/150 celebration presentation by the Reverend Dr. Christine Dempsey on Religion in the Formation of America. This was the third session in the series, and each one gets the ol’ brain going. These sessions are wonderful community gatherings and the discussions are fascinating!
Bingo, Burritos and Car Shows
Of course, Tuesday is BINGO as it is every Tuesday and the summer crowds have been delightful. It keeps the staff and volunteers hustling, but if that’s happening, we’re most likely making money! Thursday night is the BIG 250/150 CELEBRATION GALA, Friday there’s more live music, and for Saturday, the 4th of July, we pull out all the stops. There’s another car show, breakfast burritos and a lunch/dinner buffet with all the typical 4th food to enjoy, with more live music from 6-9. It will be another fun opportunity. It’s unfortunate that the fireworks had to be cancelled because of the fire danger, but all the other typical holiday things will go on. Hope to see y’all there!
Starting July 1, new leadership takes over. The new Legion Commander is Steve Irish, returning for another year after taking a few years off. Tami Scace is the new President of the Auxiliary and Randy Brigham takes the helm of the Sons. They are supported with great staffs, and I think the coming year will be one in which The Joseph J. Duncan Jr. American Legion Post 119 thrives! I’m so glad you are all a part of this, and I hope you all realize how precious your support to us is!
Happy Birthday America!
Warm Regards,
Dan Scace, Outgoing Commander
